Efficiency Makes "Cents"

The average producer spends approximately $1,000 per year to carry one cow. That means when a calf is weaned, there is already about $1,000 invested in that animal before any development begins. If a weaned calf enters SandHills Feeders at an average weight of 500 lbs, and is developed at a modest average daily gain of 2.5 lbs, the math is straightforward: 400 lbs of gain (500 lbs to 900 lbs) 160 days on feed $5.00 per head per day Total development cost: approximately $800 When combined with the initial cow cost, your total investment in a 900-lb breeding-age replacement is approximately $1,800. This program is intentionally designed to reward efficient cattle. Cattle that gain better: Spend less time on feed Accumulate lower total development cost Deliver more dollars back to the owner Better gain = fewer days = lower cost = more money in your pocket. That is the advantage of disciplined, performance-based cattle development.
